Week 1 : W.Mathis -Birthing Experience Comparing American to Chinese
After viewing some information about Chinese Birthing Experienced, I was able to see a lot of differences in the birthing as well as the months leading up to the birth. Chinese birthing experiences focus a lot on traditions. During the pregnancy process where American women are encouraged to do different things even exercise Chinese woman are restricted in so many areas. One thing that I read is that they do not believe in sex during pregnancy. Wow, I do not believe an American man would go for that. :-) During the birthing process, American women seem to be a lot more conscientious than the Chinese woman who has her birthing experience mostly in a more "mid wifery" setting. The one insight that I gained was that different countries see different things as important or less important. But studies continue to show which views work the best in the development of the child. I do believe that Americans have adopted one of the safest birthing experiences that there is to ensure the proper development of the child.

It amazes me how there are so many birthing rituals women go through. Whitney I do agree that some American men would not make it very long with out sex with there mate even though she is pregnant :).
ReplyDeleteHello Whitney! Chinese have a lot of traditions that are different than the American tradition. Two years ago i had a Chinese student in the room and we celebrate Chinese New Year and we had ti dress up in a Chinese and we made a dragon and food and everything. It was fun and nice at the same time because the parents brought us the dress and it came from China and I still have it to this day. They culture is very interesting. I think sex is good during pregnancy but our American men could not wait.
ReplyDeleteYes, Whitney. I agree with you that an American male would never wait to have sex until his partner pregnancy is over. The Chinese believe more in having a less tradition birth than us. I can never see myself having a baby in anything but a hospital. After my last delivery in which my child was born in fifteen minutes, I believe in medicine, medicine, medicine for pain. I never want to go through another birth without it.
ReplyDeleteThat is very interesting about the Chinese culture. I did not know that pregnant women was restricted from having sex. I agree a lot of American men would not go for that. You have a beautiful daughter!
